Who Can Attend?

All backgrounds and skillls  are welcomed. Registration is open to members of the UW community and interested public (the event is not limited to UW students). Registered game jam participants who are matched with groups should be prepared to commit to participating for most of the weekend. Not up for a weekend but still interested? Other opportunities to participate include attending the Introduction or Judging/Award sessions, volunteering, or sponsorship.

Do I Have to Apply as a Team?

A group is welcome to create and register their own team (up to 3 people), or individuals can sign up to be matched with a group (of 3). If registering as a team, you'll need to provide the full names and email addresses of all the team members; if registering as an individual please give us information about any relevant skills and interests so that we can match you with a group.

How to Prepare

Participating in the event is totally free, but attendees matched with a group should be willing to participate for most of the weekend. Coffee, snacks, and lunch on both days will be provided to registered participants. Participants should be prepared to bring or buy any additional meals (many affordable food options are in walking distance). Participants do not need to come prepared with specific ideas or skills, but should read our Game Jam Resources for what to expect and general guidance on tools, topics, and tips for success on game prototyping in teams.

Judging and Awards

On Sunday afternoon, a panel of selected judges (a mix of students, staff, and "expert" guests) will judge game designs and prototypes using multiple criteria. The criteria range from technical feasibility to relevance to the UW campus, and were selected to acknowledge the diversity of participants’ and team backgrounds and skills. Please refer to our Submission/Judging Criteria for details on design submission and how games will be judged.

Other Ways to Participate

We have multiple ways to participate and support this event, even if you aren't up for a whole weekend! The Introduction (Saturday morning) and Judging/Awards (Sunday evening) are open to non-registered folks who are curious about gaming+sustainability. We are also seeking gaming mentors, general vounteers, and event sponsors. To view and/or sign up for these opportunities, please fill out our Google form

The 2-day game jam is intended to provide an immersive environment for creating game concepts and prototypes (any format) that promote sustainability. Our vision is an accessible event that allows people to work together, have fun, and be creative while helping the planet and ourselves.
