As part of a UW Campus Sustainability Fund project, we are having the first ever sustainability themed game jam, with the goal of exploring a range of game designs that could help people think and live and little greener! Thanks to sponsors, we are able to offer prizes based on judging criteria, so it is a gentle competition. However, the primary objective is to create a space for people with diverse skills and perspectives to collaborate and contribute to an important issue through the innovative medium of games.

THE JAM

Can games help us think or live a little greener?

The event is hosted by UW's School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, and there will be secured 24-hour access during the jam. Tables, power, wifi, access to some printing stations, and a range of paper prototyping game supplies will be provided - teams and individuals should bring anything else that they might need. Some additional information on how to prepare can be found in our Game Jam Resources, and we will provide more logistical details (e.g., nearby food, getting there, building access) to all participants. For security reasons, pre-registration is required.

To make this event inclusive and accessible, we have set it up to fit comfortably within a weekend. Following a short Introduction on Saturday morning, groups will have from 11 am on Saturday until 4:30 pm on Sunday to work on and submit their game concepts and prototypes - given the short time fame we encourage some thinking ahead about the topic, tools, and possible designs. The judging and awards session on Sunday early evening will also be an open time to share and celebrate game designs together. See the Schedule page for more details.

Inclusivity, respect, and celebration of diverse contributions are central to our vision. Please review our Code of Conduct beforehand, and adhere to signs and instructions from event organizers. If you have any questions about this event, don't hesitate to email lkuehne@uw.edu
